AYURVEDIC BREAKFAST
This traditional Ayurvedic detox beverage supports a healthy way to lose weight and cleanse the detoxification pathways.
Enjoy every morning for breakfast as part of a cleanse or simply to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
INGREDIENTS FOR A LIVER CLEANSE DRINK
This recipe is a traditional Ayurvedic yogi breakfast drink. You’ll need a grapefruit, a whole lemon, garlic cloves, fresh ginger, ground flax seed, extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of cayenne.
Use orange instead of grapefruit if taking prescribed medication for which grapefruit is contraindicated.
When you flush the organs, gently, you get youth and vitality back. The power of this morning breakfast routine is that it builds your digestive fire.
TRADITIONAL DETOX CLEANSE DRINK
This is not a modern, new age drink, but a tried and true remedy for healing and wellness from eastern practioners.
Guru Jagat turns to this drink when she does seasonal cleanses with her community at Ra Ma Institute.
Dr. Linda Lancaster recommends this morning routine to clients who are looking for a holistic way to heal or those following her Harmonic Healing liver cleanse.
HOW TO ENJOY THE LIVER CLEANSING DRNK
This drink should be consumed as your first food of the day. Sip slowly, chew your drink, and do not take with any other food. Let it digest for two hours before eating a mid-morning snack.
You are activating your digestive fire, supporting your body’s natural detoxification and supporting your liver health with each day you enjoy this beverage.
CHEF TIPS
Chew your drink. Saliva is the first step in digestion. Drink slowly, with intention, and chew your food.
Add a few tablespoons of water if your drink is too thick.
The ideal way to prepare this beverage is with a grapefruit. If you are a bit nervous to try it, start with an orange and work up to using a grapefruit. You’ll be surprised how quickly you start to enjoy it and how light it makes you feel.
If you are extra hungry, increase the ground flax seed by adding an extra heaping scoop of ground flax seed.
Make this liver cleanse drink fresh each morning. It takes less then 5 minutes to prepare. It does not store well for the next day due to oxidation.

I just made it as my first drink of 2021 and as a gift to the health of my body, I didn’t expect it to be so yummy, too! Somehow the ginger, garlic, and citrus’ blend together so well!

I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe. Keep making it as the season change, as there are many types of grapefruits. I am making mine with ruby red and oro blanco grapefruits.

Does this recipe help in normalizing sgot & sgpt

Hi Anuj,
I am not a doctor and I don’t know the results that naturopaths and functional medicine doctors have had when patients were put on a liver cleanse diet.
Dr. Linda Lancaster has been using the morning beverage for many years to help activate a sluggish liver and support natural detoxification pathways of the body. I’d ask a holistic doctor if you are focused on blood tests results.

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Been making it every day for the past two weeks. Can’t believe the difference in my energy levels. The first time I drank it, it wasn’t my favorite but the taste has grown on me and now my body literally graves it first thing in the morning.

Hi,
Does this smoothie need to be consumed before I have my morning coffee? I haven’t yet bought the ingredients as one only just come across this detox smoothie, but looking forward to healing 😊 Many thanks Lee

Yes, the liver cleanse drink should be consumed first before anything else (other then coffee). Wait a good 30 minutes after eating to drink your coffee. Enjoy!
